BAPCO select Achilles as ‘ideal partner’
Achilles has been selected by the State owned Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) as their supplier qualification and information management partner. Bapco are representing a consortium of leading local companies entitled the B9 who include Alba, Asry, Gulf Air, Bahrain Airport Services, Tamkeen and the Bahrain Tender Board. The first phase of development will concentrate on assisting the Oil and Gas Sector in the Kingdom, where Bapco will be partnered in forming a Joint Qualification System by Banagas and GPIC.
Energy minister and BAPCO Board Chairman Dr Abdulhussain Mirza signed the contract on behalf of the consortium, together with Achilles’ Chairman Colin Maund, in a ceremony in Awali in central Bahrain. Dr Mirza described Achilles as an ‘ideal partner’ and as one of the world’s leading managers of supplier information services.
The partnership will focus on identifying collaborative sustainable procurement solutions. The first project in this initiative is the creation of a ‘cloud-based’ supplier development solution to enable the consortium to collect and manage accurate supplier information, develop supply chain efficiencies, reduce risk, improve quality and drive local supplier development initiatives. It will also benefit the local economy, in line with the Bahrain Government’s ‘Economic Vision 2030’.
Achilles Global Oil and Gas Director, Brian Imray, commented “this is part of a carefully planned strategy, which will see Achilles, supported by our Industry partners, grow our presence in the MENA region significantly over the next three years. Discussions with several GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) neighbours, hoping to mirror the systems being developed for the Kingdom of Bahrain, are at an advanced stage.”
Brian added, “In building and locally supporting systems in new strategic locations, we will help these regions develop local suppliers and also continue to offer suppliers who are already registered in Achilles systems, access to new markets and opportunities.”
