Clarification about CR and CEMARS letter

Putting the record straight on carbonReduction . . . .

One of the services Achilles provides is the carbonReduction programme and CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) certification. Recognition of the scheme by the Environment Agency has resulted in press releases by parties other than Achilles about CEMARS certification. Some of these articles contain inaccurate information and we would ask any organisations wishing to find out more about CEMARS certification to contact Achilles directly.

In summary, CEMARS certification helps organisations with their long-term carbon measurement, management and reduction. The programme provides a complete package that includes step-by-step guidance on how to measure your carbon footprint, templates to develop an emissions inventory report and reduction plan and access to online software to store emissions data, track KPIs and calculate your carbon footprint. This enables organisations to identify all their greenhouse gas emissions, ensure correct measurement and establish a programme to focus on reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Organisations have five years, from the base year, to demonstrate an absolute or a relative reduction in emissions. CEMARS certification can be used as a CRC Early Action Metric which requires an organisation to provide three years’ worth of historical greenhouse gas data in order to demonstrate a reduction over this period.

Furthermore, CEMARS is the world’s first internationally accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme to ISO14065.
